I am an experimental physicist with a keen interest in working on challenging projects that have near-term, if not immediate, applications.  Two underlying themes of my research have been the study of materials in high temperature/pressure environments and the making of very accurate measurements with high precision. Some of my work has involved: i) characterizing materials for wireless communication and high temperature sensor applications; ii) growth and characterization of thin films for surface protection iii) developing high temperature- and high pressure-capable instruments for characterizing Enhanced Geothermal Systems; iv) measuring the nonlinear elastic properties of liquids and solids, v) developing novel techniques for ultrasonic imaging in harsh environments.   I am currently very interested in additive manufacturing (AM), both as a technology for creating novel engineered materials as well as from a materials development perspective (AMed parts have very different properties from those traditionally fabricated).
