How Much Does ADSM Cost?
The About page has pricing information.

What Platforms Does ADSM Run On?
ADSM will run on Macintosh, Windows 95/98/NT, and many flavors of UNIX. For a complete list, and system requirements see the Download page.

How Do I Register A Node?
For Windows and Macintosh, you use the ADSM Registration Wizard to register your node when you install the ADSM Client. For help with registering your computer, visit the tutorial center. For Unix, you use the on-line Register page to register your node.

What is the lifetime of files on ADSM?
ADSM keeps up to 5 levels of backups for each file on your hard drive: the current, or "active" one, which is the most recent backup; and up to 4 "inactive" backups, which reflect previously updated versions. These five backups are kept permanently on ADSM, unless you delete the file from your hard drive.

When you delete a file from your hard drive, ADSM removes all the inactive versions and retains the active version as the sole remaining backup. At this point, it is considered an inactive backup but is still kept for another 180 days. After 180 days, the file is deleted from ADSM.

How do I see files that were backed up on ADSM but were deleted from my hard drive?
Visit the tutorial center for your computer type and and click on the Restoring a Specifc File or Folder and Understanding and Using Active/Inactive File Status links.

Can I backup on one platform and restore on another platform?
Generally, no. But the Windows 3.1, Windows 95, Windows 98, and Windows NT node types are believed to be compatible.

What if the node is behind a firewall?
If automatic backups are not occurring and your Scheduler Log contains only the message "waiting to be contacted by Server," ADSM has not been able to penetrate the firewall to initiate your automatic backup. You must change the dsm.sys file so that YOUR machine, rather than the ADSM Server initiates the backup process.
Add the following statement to your dsm.sys file: SCHEDMODe POlling

Who do I contact for help?
E-mail adsm_admin@lanl.gov for all your help questions.

Is there ADSM Documentation online?
Yes, go to the online ADSM documentation.
