What is the difference between backup and archive?
Backup is only a temporary safeguard against the loss of files currently on a computer. Archive is long-term storage of files for retrieval in the future. CIC-7 does not currently offer the archive feature. If you are interested in this service, contact adsm_admin@lanl.gov.

How can I exclude specific files from being backed up?
To manually exclude files, make sure the checkbox next to the file is not checked (does not have this icon: ).

To automatically exclude files, edit your ADSM Preferences (Mac) or DSM.OPT (Windows and UNIX) file by putting in lines that start with Exclude:

Exclude "...:DiskLock.data"
Exclude "...:Desktop DB"

etc.

How can I tell when the last time I backed up was?
You check the ADSM schedule log file on your computer, or you can lookup your backup data and other node information at the Query/Update page.

If my backup failed, how can I tell what went wrong?
You can check the ADSM Error log file on your computer.
