Network Analytics

Every month several petabytes of data fly across our networks. Data collection tools collect summary information for approximately 10 billion distinct connections per year. The sheer volume of information derived from these summarizations demands increasingly sophisticated and novel monitoring and analysis techniques.

Employing numerous techniques in data summarization, clustering, classification, statistical analysis, and information visualization, LANL is making extensive efforts to continually improve on our ability to monitor and maintain the security of our institutional networks. LANL, in collaboration with the University of New Mexico (UNM), has developed several methods and tools to collect, store, and analyze this growing volume of network activity information.
