General INFOrmationThe purpose of our weeklong workshop is to bring together researchers in particle physics, nuclear physics, astrophysics and cosmology who share a common interest in neutrinos. The workshop will discuss both theoretical and experimental aspects of neutrinos, with a emphasis on their role in astrophysical and cosmology in the latter part of the workshop.
This will be a small (25-30 external participants), informal workshop. Every effort will be made to promote an atmosphere of discussion, in which original ideas and points of view are heard.
Every effort will be made to encourage participation by junior researchers. For both students and postdocs there will be no registration fee and the hotel stay will be covered (see below).
This workshop is a natural continuation of the INFO 05 workshop held 2 years ago and will aim to follow the same format. It is a part of the annual series of workshops on physics beyond the Standard Model hosted by the particle theory group (T-8) of the Los Alamos National Laboratory.
Some of the topics to be covered
- Neutrino Properties -- Masses, Mixing, & Interactions -- Current Status & Future Prospects
- Models of Neutrino Masses
- Neutrinos in Astrophysical Environments: Oscillations, Stellar Cooling, etc.
- Cosmological Signatures of Neutrinos (CMB, Large-Scale Structure)
- Sterile Neutrinos
Plan of the workshopThe first three days of the workshop will address a wide range of questions relating to experiment and theory of neutrino properties. The last two days will be devoted primarily to the problem of neutrino flavor evolution in a supernova and the early Universe.
The INFO workshop participants may also find of interest the cosmology workshop that will take place in Santa Fe on July 2 - 20. Contact Salman Habib for more information.
VenueThe workshop will be held at the La Fonda hotel, located on the historic Plaza in downtown Santa Fe, New Mexico. Hotel rooms will reserved for all registered participants for July 2-5. Please do NOT make your own reservations with the hotel for those days.
Directions to the La Fonda HotelTo get to Santa Fe, the cheapest (although some of you may find good flights directly into Santa Fe (SAF)) route is to fly into Albuquerque (ABQ) and drive to Santa Fe. The distance is approximately 60 miles and usually takes around one to one and a half hours.
You can find convenient directions on the hotel web site. This PDF map may also be useful. Finally, here is a map curtesy of Google Maps. This map can be used as a starting point for zooming in/out, as well as getting driving directions, for example from the Albuquerque International Sunport .
If you will not have a car, two shuttles are available at the Albuquerque Sunport to take you to La Fonda in Santa Fe. The trip takes around one and a half hours.
The Sandia Shuttle express is $20 each way. Make a reservation at (888)775-5696 or online.
The Santa Fe Shuttle is $21/one way or $38/round trip. Make a reservation at (888)833-2300 or online.
Financial SupportThanks to our sponsors, we have been able to arrange for significant financial support for the workshop participants. This includes accommodations at the hotel for 5 nights (July 2 - 6) and meals (breakfast and lunch) for all registered participants.
There no registration fee for students or postdocs. Faculty members are asked to pay a registration fee of $300. Notice that this fee is significantly subsided (includes accomodations and meals). The fee is waived for all participants who will not request hotel accommodations (this group naturally includes LANL locals).
To register for the workshop, send an email to email@example.com. Please indicate your name, institution, contact information (phone, email), and whether you would like to give a talk. Please include "INFO07" on your subject line, to make sure your message is not blocked by our spam filter. Prospective participants are encouraged to register without delay. The deadline for registration is May 25, 2007.
All local LANL participants: please register by emailing your name to firstname.lastname@example.org.
For registering faculty members: please send your registration fee of $300 to the address below:
