Tombolos and Green Flashes

Tombolos are geological formations generated by wave action. One such on the island of Kauai is examined from the viewpoint of wave phenomena. Connection is then made to analogous waves in the context of optics, acoustics, and quantum mechanics. The "green flash" is a rarely seen optical phenomenon that is observed primarily at sunset over an ocean horizon. Several tricks are suggested to enhance one's chances for seeing this unusual sight (we did).
