The CDI is in the news!

Grand Canyon Info

Click here to find a map of the Four Corners Area, or click here for a map of the City of Farmington to the Holiday Inn Hotel located at 600 East Broadway Drive, and to the San Juan College. We hope these will help you find your way to drop off and pick up your child at the Cyber-Defenders Institute.

Please drop off your child at 6:00 pm on Sunday evening, 7/6/03, at the Holiday Inn Hotel in the Chaco Room. There your child will register for the CDI, receive all of their materials and supplies, and check into their
hotel room (if s/he is a traveling student). Later that evening your child will attend an opening meeting and a catered dinner to start the 2003 CDI. Day students will be dismissed at 8:00 pm.

Classes will begin on Monday morning, July 7th, at 8:00 am at the San Juan College in room 7225 in the Computer Science Building. Transportation for all CDI events is being provided by the TNMO Bus Depot, and your child must use this bus for all transportation. Your child will not be allowed to use a personal vehicle during any part of the CDI.

Two chaperones and five instructors will supervise your child during the CDI. The chaperones will ride with the students in the bus, accompany the students to all activities and outings, and ensure they are in their hotel
rooms at curfew. Any issues arising with your student regarding their health or behavior will be brought to your immediate attention.

During the weekday evenings and the intervening weekend, low-cost activities will be provided for the students. Your child will be allocated their per diem on a daily basis. It is your childs responsibility to use the money wisely. Your child will be responsible for all costs above their per diem allotment ($25/day for traveling students and $10/day for day students).

If you need to leave your child a message during the CDI, please leave the message for them at the hotel at 505-327-9811. If you have an emergency, please call one of the instructors cellular phones so we can immediately relay the message to your child. The emergency numbers are 505-412-1434, 505-670-5609, 505-310-5662, and 505-620-6240.

The CDI will conclude on Friday afternoon, 7/18/03. From 1:00 - 3:30 pm students will be giving final presentations on the work that they did during the CDI and we will have a closing ceremony. All parents are encouraged to attend. The presentations will be held in room 7103 of the Computer Science Building at San Juan College. Immediately following the presentations will be a closing reception where you and your child can mingle with LANL officials, the CDI instructors, and the other CDI students. Your child will be dismissed from the CDI by 4:30 pm on Friday afternoon. If you do not plan to attend the presentations and reception, please arrive at the San Juan College no later that 4:30 pm to retrieve your child.

If you have any other questions about the CDI, please feel free to contact Gina Fisk by phone (505-412-1434) or email (gina@lanl.gov).
