Los Alamos & Bandelier National Monument

Los Alamos, in northern New Mexico, sits on the Pajarito (pa-ha-ree-toe; little bird) Plateau between the Jemez Mountains to the west and the Rio Grande to the east. Adjacent to the Lab is Bandelier National Monument (for more info: NPService-Bandelier or NPFoundation-Bandelier). This site, occupied by the Anasazi Indians betweeen 1075 and 1600 AD, was named after Adolf Bandelier who pioneered the research on this site during an expedition to New Mexico between 1880-1889.
